Hi,

The first place that springs to mind is last.fm. The label and artist management side of the site is very simple to use, although I haven't tried the paid promotional services as I haven't felt the need. I'm not sure what the relationship is between the Polish and English sites - whether you need to have a presence on both - but it's one more place to get your music "out there".

Facebook Working On a Music Platform For Bands; Not iTunes Killer, But MySpace

The platform will allows bands and labels to create artists pages, and allow various widgets to be embedded for music promotion, organizing events, etc.

Why dont you target some of the lables i am sure you have on myspace amongst your friends, if not get some added,
send your tracks to some of these carefully chosen mind you, make sure they are local too you, second off check to see what and how many retail/download outlets they use, and also if they also do other formats if this is your desire too.
as for sites like garage band /soundclick etc - these mean nothing unless you have been their for sometime building up a repor and cliant base, use such sites for your cliant base, but do not exspect any interest from lables, as you will find many dodgy outfits, what i am saying is dont compramise yourself, dont exspect too be found, you must go out and find a lable/lables that you are happy with, if you are confident with your music then this should not be a problem,
as others will also see and believe in your music, dont be found by chance, go for what you want, at the end of the day
grill them and grill them, and if it is a decent lable
then they should be able to answer all questions.

just copyright your music, before trying, and get some hunting done, dont wait for them.

the first question to ask is: What do I want to achieve?

If you want pop fame then you have to be a certain age, look a certain way and make music that is fashionable this week or maybe next week. I expect most people here aren't looking at that sid eof the music business.

If you love music and particularly if you don't need to make your living from it, then all the hundreds of online outlets and networks, radio shows and podcasts listed by others here are ways to be heard, make a little money and gain respect and a following.

If you want to produce a physical product and you have your own recording gear, it is possible to get your album mastered at somewhere like iMastering at Metropolis (£75 a track) and replicated somewhere for maybe £700 or £800 for a thousand CDs, all printing etc included. Total budget can be under £2,000 for a thousand CDs. You can sell by mail via all the various websites you are ruthlessly self-promoting on, and it is quite feasible to cover costs and make a profit before very long. Anything sold for over £2 plus postage is making a profit if you sell the lot. Or, 200 sold at £10 and then you're in profit.

Yes. You've got to put some hours in. MySpace alone has got us one decent gig, two tracks signed to a compilation that has been released in N America and India, radio play in various parts of the world and several podcast appearances. We've also swapped messages with various of our musical heroes which is very nice indeed. It all took a lot of hours hunched over my poor overworked PC, though. No gain without pain.

I use both of these sites and have generated alot of interest in my music as a result.

Best wishes from mindwalk2007.........
