MTM Studio Net

Hi!
Can any of you guys help me with my vocal production?
I have been working semi/pro for a number of years in my cute home studio. The problem I have is.. I have produced tracks for total beginners to platinum selling artistes and always acheived a relatively good vocal sound. However I have decided to do my own album for a change and when i apply all my vocal tricks and techniques to my voice..it sounds crap! This is frustrating the life outta me as I have also been a professional singer for the last 15 yrs!!!
My main studio vocal mic is audio technica 3035 condenser. I have all the correct noise stuff/treatment / preamps/ gates etc fitted as this is my job!
Maybe my own voice just sucks when recorded...yet I feel I can hold my own when it comes to live work and have played some great venues so that side must be ok...right?
I cant seem to capture my "live" vocals ... in the studio.
My vocals sound so harsh , and no amount of corrective eq seems to change things
HELP!!!

have you asked anyone else how the vocals sound.
many people dislike the sound of their own voice, famously john lennon and kate bush
a second opinion might help

Thanks,
I think you are more than right!
I had my suspisions that it was probably down to that. I am fine with other peoples voices and I seem to know what to do with them....but mine ouch!
I will just keep recording and experimenting with various mics/comps and see what happens.
I think it was just a big wake up call for me.....so thanks for your help, its done me good!

the reason your own voice is often disliked is because you always hear it along with the resonances of your head and chest which are a part of the sound. the first time i recorded myself teaching i didnt even recognise who it was. it may sound weird but have you tried recording vocals using binaural mics. if you second an unexpert second opinion id be glad to help - sorry my shift key is broken. cheers peter

Hello to you.

I'm never Happy with my voice the way it sounds but I don't have the tricks to Mask the sound to perfection like so many artists today. When you hear alot of them sing live and hear what they sound like in the studio it's all about production.

Anyways that's what I think.

Try some Different Mic's maybe or let another vocalist hear your vocals.

Being relaxed Helps!!

maybe try using the mic you use live instead of your AT?

I seem to be warming to my recorded voice a bit more now! the more I hear it the easier it sounds.
