I noticed a PC in the current Argos catalog and I was wondering was it as good as it seems.
I was planning on building my own PC from scratch but at this price and with the amount of RAM and a Quad core processor it's hard to find fault with it. I know it is running Vista which is not ideal but the rest of the spec seems pretty good to me.
I would appreciate any feddback on it. The link below should take you to it.
P.S. I have eventually joined the 21st century and got myself a broadband connection so I will be updating my page in the next few days and hopefully I will be a ble to make better use of the site from now on.
Thanks to evryone for their replies, it gives me a lot to think about.
I think Astral summed up the reasons behind the apparently low price for an apparently high spec PC. Most of the things mentioned are things I never would have thought of so it was good to hear.
I would like to splash out on a custom made PC and I think in order to get a reliable machine with good aftersales support and future upgrading possibilities it might be worth saving up.
One more question by the way, if I do save for a custom made PC would it be wise to wait to buy until windows 7 has been tested for audio or is it generally thought that it will be more like XP than Vista as far as audio handling is concerned?
Sorry for the stupid questions but up to now I've been using an off the shelf PC with a RAM upgrade so if I'm going to take the plunge into the world of an audio specific PC I want to be sure I'm getting the best for my needs.
Dave, Astral Knows his stuff,
you will get a better more rounded setup if you Build Yourself, the Pc i Built myself has been by far superior, less any software issues, but quite the power house, i got everything for about 750 pounds including a second 22" monitor, and vista 64X So i suppose from experience i should really have advised against the argos one, but if its all about the money as with my first setup, then sometimes we dont have the choice, it will still give you the grounds For learning, its just a pain with technology, one week you pay 500 pounds say and a little later down the line lucky if its worth half that, so at least if its self Builtt you will have that emaphasis and you can allow for some! future Proofing/expansions.
