Hi everybody, im getting a new studio mic from santa, i am looking for help to choose a decent mic for recording,i am using a Samson Co1mic with an M Box 2, recording into Pro Tools le and Ableton live 7,the problem is that the signal is very weak and i dont know if it is the pre amp in ProTools or the Samson mic which only cost a 100 euro, also is there any specs when reading about mics to say what the line level is going to be,i am mostly recording accustic instruments with some vocals and some bass guitar, ta Ben Murphy

Hi Ben
It sounds like the mic needs phantom power, which you can get on mixers such as the Behringer Eurorack UB1002 or a USB audio capture devices such as the Edirol UA-25. I hope this has been of help.

I think the SE2200A would be right up your street. Again, it requires phantom power, but that shouldn't be a problem with the Mbox. I use this mic, fantastic piece of kit.

Hey guy, conderser Microphone always give you low sinal, , I mean every kind can be like this(except Tube-condenser) so there's nothing to worry. If you want your input to be louder, try to turn trimulator of the M-Box about 3/4. I guess that you've already used a XLR cable, make sure about the cable. And if you still feel it's weak, so buy a tubePre (Presonus). It's got level peak only, but a clean sound man :)

Ta for your reply ,you are right about condenser mics,i just tried an AKG C3000 and the signal was only a little bit louder, i will try what you suggest and turn the trim up,so meanwhile i will have to stick to DI,ing everything, Ben.
