Profile Information

How would you categorise your musical output?
My personal stuff is faith based comtemporary rock something or other. I do a little cultural recording and producing with some Inuit friends and whatever comes along. I find myself getting simpler in my approach and content but can lay it on thick when I need to!

What are your favourite pieces of studio hardware?
My chair, my fan when its hot in here, my glasses, foot rest and flashlight, (for seeing the cabling in dark corners behind the desk where I bang my head too often!)

Other than that: my XPC, Yamaha monitors (HS80M) plus sub, Cort 6 and 4 string acoustics, Rode Mic (NT1-A) and an old fart Fatar Studio 900 connected to a Korg X50 and Reason.
Which Digital Audio Workstation application do you use?
Audition 2.0 & just waiting for Pro Tools 7.3 to be delivered next week. Ugh, another learning curve that will be low and slow but worth it once I get comfy.
What's your favourite digital instrument?
Korg X50 & just about everything in Reason 4.
Who are your musical/production influences or heroes?
Who ever produced Brothers in Arms - by Dire Straits - I guess it was Mark Knopfler & Neil Dorfsman, (Just looked it up - they won a Grammy for best engeneered album). Probably the last big jump in over all fidelity that I have experienced to date. I love the style and subtlety. I like a lot of jazz, big helpings of Genesis & Peter Gabriel. Vocally I guess rockers like Zep, & Southern Rock like Third Day, Phil Collins & Peter Gabriel again, are some strong influences. But mood through lyrics often dictates the flavour of things for me.

Change Change Change

Been a while since I last posted anything. so, as I was saying, "Bring on 2008!" ... That's a year I would rather forget, or at least forget the pain and remember the lessons. Anyhow, a few more tunes posted, still writing and recording. If anyone would like to contribute some electric guitar licks and rhythm please let me know. Could always use a little polish on some songs and some don't have any EG at all.

God bless,

Dan

2007 RIP Bring on 2008!

One day is pretty much like the rest, a blank page that gets filled up pretty quickly whether we like it or not. We certainly don't have control over most of it. Some things from the past influence it, some things we think would, don't. But what we can do we should do. Looking back we quickly realise how little impact our intentions had and how much impact our choices had. May 2008 be a year of good choices made with a right heart.

Best wishes,

Dan

Music?

Well, finally put up some tunes. Always risky, more so when some of the themes/lyrics may be unpopular but hey, I have come to trust you guys, (gender nutral term where I come from), somewhat and know you'll all be kind and honest in your comments, should you choose to make any.

The songs are pretty far along, perhaps some tweaking left to do, or a guitar part not mixed in yet, or no cymbals yet, level adjustmets to be made, stuff like that.

Going to bed now.

But first...

When nothins working out

Last couple of days have been useless as far as getting anything audio done. I tried recording vocals and wasted a night. Swithched for a while and tried figuring out a bassline for a tune and nada, nothing, zip, blah blah blah. Just frustrated and only a little further along knowing what doesn't work but I guess swinging the bat and missing is part of the whole thang.

How come some days everything is gold and other days its a radioactive mercury led alloy kinda poison?

Late again!

Yah, up late. Why is it I get more into this at night than during the day?

Got a lot done today though, for a change. Took my son to his speach therapy this morning, did a PC RAM upgrade, ordered a new Rode NT1-A for me and Pro Tools 7! Woo Hoo!

Got a little more mastering done, picked up some cash, rented out, delivered, set up and picked up some gear.

And... I just found out about Reason 4.0. Looks great! Coming out Sept 26 07.

Plus, I got this little MTM thing g

I've been listening to some of the tunes here at MTMnet, and wow, you guys are good. Sorry I haven't commented individually but I haven't had the time. I am blown away by the talent. I haven't done anything close to what you guys are doing in a long time and it seems my current genre is a little out in left field here and I'm wondering if I should even post some of what I'm doing or am I in the wrong place?

Congrats to you all. Keep up the great work.
