"Hi Aaron, You might want to try out this page. Lot's of links there to patches and utilities. Have a DX27 myself and I find programming FM synthesis a bit of a pig."

results at last - my EP

I've finally put out some of my work. My "Brown Paper" EP was recorded around a year ago and sat on the shelf for most of the intervening time. but i decided to finally let it out into the world as a free download (link at the end).it was initially a project for me to try out some recording techniques as well as the challenge of doing something completely by myself. i wrote the songs and performed all of the instruments. I recorded in Cubase LE4 via a Presonus FP10 onto an ageing Dell laptop -…See More

cubase le4 - annoying faults and major disappointment in Steinberg

have just had a major disappointment with cubase le 4. i have two licenses for this, one on my ageing windows laptop and one on a macbook (added recently). there had always been a bug with processing audio  - try to add a fade in or out or normalise and invariably it would cause a crash. i had always thought that this was something to do with my rubbish windows laptop. but when i started using the same version of the software with my macbook, i had the same problem. "no worries" i thought -…See More

DX7 resources

My band have been asked to perform A-Ha songs for a function which is great, even though we're an alternative rock band! anyhow, our bassist/keyboard player has gotten hold of a Yamaha DX7 the same as was used by A-Ha. I was wondering if anybody knows of any good websites for resources, and specifically how to get A-Ha sounds out of it.cheers!See More

tinnitus

i've always had very mild tinnitus that was hardly noticeble and i'd started using earplugs and taking breaks from music. At the weekend, i rehearsed as usual with my band - i actually ended up sitting out most of it. unfortunately, i did this sat across from a very loud 4x12 guitar cab for about half an hour. ever since, the tinnitus has been so much worse. i'm also putting it down to fatigue as i haven't been sleeping much recently due to working at silly times of the day. there is a lot of… Continue

best laid plans...

the kitchen diary thing just didn't happen. i'm far too lazy to do it now, but maybe in the future it will be revived - even though i'll soon be moving to a new place where the kitchen is too small for that sort of thing. bathroom diary? another project has since sparked my interest and then fell victim to my laziness but it is one that i really want to see through - a couple of months agoa, i dug out my old tascam 4 track. tapes!…

projects projects projects

the synth purchase has been put on the back burner for a bit. my band has recently been joined by a fantastic bass / piano / keys player so i can concentrate on some old fashioned guitar and writing lyrics. instead, i'm going to be taking on a couple of exciting little projects.

the big one is a documentary following a London base independent record label - its an exciting year for the label and i'll be keeping a video log of my progress. my other project has only stirred in my mind…

synth virgin

so i'm contemplating buying my first real life proper synth. since i can't play keyboards, i want to get something relatively inexpensive but with cool sounds as well as something thats small enough for me to carry alongside my guitar and related boxes to band rehearsals. i am quite keen on the alesis micron - fairly compact, fairly cheap and from what i've heard, sounds fairly good. i just want some interesting sounds that will fit with noisy guitars as well as some basic electronica building… Continue
