Ok so its my 30th looming thick and fast and the wife has promised me a special present of my own choosing. Budget wise I am interested in a MPC 500 but is it too stripped down to be any real use? Should I push for a MPC1000 and give her the difference in price?

If anyone ownes either or both (Or even a MPC 2500, 4000 or 5000) I would be greatful for advice and your experience.

The 500 is the only piece of hardware I've ever sold on. Mine crashed a lot. I mean a LOT. Plus, when running on batteries, it produces an audible humming noise. I don't want to put you off, the MPC is a fine machine in general - I just had bad experience with my 500. Go the 1000 (or better), if at all possible.

I own a MPC1000 and I can't live without it. A friend of mine went out and brought a MPC500 and I've messed with it a couple of times. Its okay but I found the screen was way too small and for only about £150 more you can get a MPC1000 which has the bigger screen, more pads and more features. I agree with Clinton, if you can stretch to a 1000 or better you can't go wrong.
