Hello there...
I've been using Acid Pro, samples, plugins, etc for ages but I'm now seriously thinking of going "hardware" (much more fun!). Thought about getting a basic mixer but I need more flexible routing and control (MIDI/Audio), and someone recommended the Presonus Firestudio. It looks like it's the sort of thing I need, so maybe the same for you? I think it's around £500 seems to be worth it - it includes loads of plugins and comes with Cubase 4 LE, Reason Adapted, and loads of other stuff. I've already got a computer it might be the complete package - it got a great review in MTM too!

Anyone else used one of these?

.
Hi, are you looking to record a band setup, as microphones will differ, or will it be more software based production and standard vocal recording's you require.

Also what price are you prepared to go to - this may help us with our recommendations.

it will mainly be bands, some of which I'm wanting to do totally multitracked, each instrument on its own but i would like the facility to be able to a live recording aswell, i rekon i have 500 for the interface and then about 1000(tops) for mics.

I think that something like the Firestudio will probably do you. I've had a look into all these sorts of devices and from what I've seen, it seems like the one which is most flexible. Looks like it'd be good for both live and studio use. There's an offer on at the moment with a free remote control for it - seems like you can do something like 9 different mixes with it. If you get one before me, let me know how it is. I found some reviews on zzounds.com here which look quite promising.

I've added a Youtube video of the Firestudio.....it does look good - I'm seriously tempted...

Just realised I hadn't replied - sorry (I'm supposed to be a moderator on here!). I've been looking into mics myself, but it all depends on what you're going to use it for. If you've got the cash, then get the best ones you can afford. Post a few questions to the recording engineer/studio people on here and someone will hopefully give you some help about which mic to choose. If you're after the Firestudio and have the cash, I'd get one soon because there's a special offer at the moment of a free MSR monitor remote control (you get a rebate on it, so technically it's not free when you get it, but you get the idea!). It looks like the offer is on until the end of April.....
