REAPER - is it any good?

I downloaded the REAPER digital audio workstation software the other day and I've been quite impressed so far.

Having switched to a software-based system last year, I've previously used Cubase Studio 4 but I barely scratched the surface of that package and didn't manage to re-spark the creativity I once achieved with hardware synths, samplers and recording gear. (Not that DAWs are necessarily the only cause of that; it may just be me getting older or whatever.)

Anyway, I'm really looking for a DAW that's easy and fun to use, whilst also enabling me to achieve professional results.

Does anyone around here use REAPER for serious work? What do you find are its main strengths and weaknesses when compared with other applications?

i dont know anything really about reaper but if your looking for a fun and easy to use DAW then i would recommend Live 6 or 7. you could probably get 6 at a knowdown price somewhere at this stage or wait for live lite7 in july. very easy to use and excellent for all types of music... just my two cents. how have you found reaper so far? i might get it myself to try out...

What's the licensing deal with Ableton Live? Say I've got a main desktop computer and a laptop, can I install Live 7 on both of them using the one licence?

As far as I am aware, you can install it on two systems as I do, one for production the other for dj use etc. so yes two separate computers, but you can not link these and publicly perform on more than one application per license.

I've always thought about Reaper - it looks like a sort of hybrid of all the major DAWs, a bit like they've taken all the best bits from the others.

Hi There,
I discovered Reaper bout a month ago and can't find fault with it. Sound quality is superb, handling of fx is spot on and workflow is very fast. I'm converted. One of my tracks military was done in Reaper.
