I think you get out what you put in.
Two of my forum posts appear in this months mag.
I have learned loads since arriving tho maybe I had further to come from a v. basic skill level
Not necessarily a flop, no, but maybe there doesn't appear to be much of a community spirit. For myself, I've had very little time to devote to music this year, not being a pro, and so music communities have been on the backburner, too.
Another addition to what i said, and others have mentioned- quality, on many other sites you can find a lot of poeple that do not make it with their music, or are just in it for the crack as suppose to the personal satisfaction and they can shed a lot of negativity.
like they say in the club scene everybody want to be a dj, and also in our case a producer, but not every one is capable or suitable in the long term.
so the benifits that would seem good on MTmn is that, many off us here are aspiring in a positive way to be what we can in the music world, and sharing, and growing. knowing that we will not be addament on things we know, but we will suggest, unless of course we are confident in our statements (but here i can trust judgment).
Not forgetting most off us here do seem to have a heathly learning streak and drive, so its all good.
Dude, I'v learned a hell of a lot here, made friends, started collabs, participated in anything I could and I think its great. there may be 600 members that never post but some are really good people that would help anyone out. Like P said, you get out what you put in.
Yeah,
Second that one,
I believe that the quality of content, the quality of questions and the quality of the members, proves beyond doubt that the people here are a most discerning group. By definition that implies a complete lack of cack.
You may be having a discrepancy of perception in the belief that this site or forum is indeed a flop.
Quality over quantity anyday.
Have you had a look at the nonsense bandied about by lesser mortals at some of these other music sites ?
There's not too many spambots around here (apart from me), so that must be a good thing.
Another forum I'm heavily involved with is sp-forums.com, a site devoted to Roland's nifty little samplers. It started out very much like this place; only 500 members, stuff-all traffic, etc. Now, three years on, it's thriving. It's thriving becuase of the 'complete lack of cack' approach of it's members.
This place has a similar 'slightly-higher-brow' feel to it, thus might just have to wait 'til it gets big enough. Around 2000 members seems to be critical mass for forums - so this place is a thrid of the way there.
I think we just need time to grow a bit with many of using multile forums for different reasons I have trouble keeping them up with them all and my 17 week old daughter and desperately wanting to get back in the studio between nappy changes and feeds. I wish there were 40 or so hours in a day so I could spend more time on everything!!
