Mixers for Reason 4 and Live 6

I'm thinking of buying a BEHRINGER Xenyx 2222FX to use with Reason 4 and Live 6 but I'm not sure how well they will work together. Can anyone let me know their thoughts and pros and cons.

Their are some reviews here about this product,

As far as its compatibility with Reason I can not find anything, all I can say is obviously you wont have any preconfigured mapping templates or any setting in reasons for this, you would however be able to use the midi learn and save your own assignments I would think. Ableton is very quick and easy to assign.

also maybe try the Behringer, and Reason/Ableton website more so, ask if anybody else has this set up, including some of the others in this range as they will also give you an idea on how stable/compatible these are,BEHRINGER Xenyx 2222FX with Reason 4 and Live 6.

Maybe I have missed your point but if your work is all done in the computer, why do you feel the need for an external mixer?

You won't get any audio into Reason other than importing samples and a simple audio interface will get the audio into a sampler or Live. Your Reason audio should be able to come into Live via Rewire I think. Pro-save money

I am using an Alesis USB mixer (now in Firewire version) to bring my hardware inputs together, synths, drum machines and 4 decent enough pre-amps simply so I can layer up gear and use external outboard as it goes into the computer. This also lets me keep all my gear patched in and ready to go. If you are in a similar situation then a hardware mixer might be the way to go. Given the same money again I would have gone for a simpler rack mixer such as EURORACK PRO RX1602 which are around £80 and take up less space. It has gain, pan and a FX buss and would do the job more gracefully than my present solution given that I already have an interface. I also use the mixer for live theatre mixing which is why I havent changed over. Pro-flexibility with hardware if you have it.

Mackie also do some simpler mixers with 4 - 8 inputs. You question doesn't say why you need 22 inputs or if you already have an interface. The Behringer comes equipped with a USB interface which might be useful and also 24bit FX built in. Check the usability of these cos they are often preset the only control being the amount of FX added by the AUX sends. If my understanding is correct the FX and the 'British' EQ can only be used either by sound going in from hardware or if you send your stereo from Reason/Live through a couple of channels before you mix down to something external rather than bouncing down in the computer. alternaively if your audio interface offers some sort of output from computer then back in, in which case you might consider using outboard EQ/X superior to those on the desk . Check the latency on this unit before you buy. My Alesis mixer has large latency times which make playing soft synths challenging to say the least even when I use the asio4all driver.
Con - quality of mixer only use with sound coming in

These are some of the things I have been considering with my present gear and I hope it helps.

After testing three different daws together, ableton reason and sonar, I concluded that the easy and most productive set up to use is Reason rewire to ableton.

This is how I have my set up at present; I use an Axiom 61 to control Instruments in both applications
But I do all my channel levels by mouse, but I do have a Behringer Bcf2000 for grouping, and balancing the overall levels.

Start:
Reason rewire to ableton, in which I set up a reason template with 3 x dr Rex Player, then one of each synth/sampler.
I then set up a template in ableton with each reasons midi track going to its own audio channel in ableton, which can then be recorded to ableton once i am happy with my midi in reason.
I also have 2X impulse drums 2 simpler for extra drum parts and then one of each synth in my ableton template after my reason in channels. This is then followed by 10 different bus groups, which I can later send my tracks too, for a final mix and balance, via my Bcf, which also makes it easier to mute and solo section.

Although I do not add any live instruments at present except mic, so again the mixer you get will also depend on if you are say recording a full band, as I don’t need this I have some inputs on my soundcard that suffice, so hence the Bcf is fine for this job.

What sort of music are you producing and are their any live recordings (Exclude the vocals),
