How would you categorise your musical output?
African genres, retrosoul, funk, latin, jazz, ambient electronica, blues rock, reggae, dub, gospel (production) loop-based machine music using coverdisk samples and done purely in $7 Steinberg Remix (cutdown Ableton 2002, no audio, no MIDI, 5 plugins, only 1 VST -- usually EQ or limiter -- on the output) and then punched up in Audacity or Wavelab lite.
What are your favourite pieces of studio hardware?
HDSP 9632 PCI + AEB 4-1 on old P4 but these recordings were mostly made at bach flat with maxed out CeleronD2.6GHz, EMU0404 PCI, Peavey stereo mixer + Boss DI for bass. SE2200a. And mixed on phones! Don't do it kids. Rather vaporise the neighbours
Which Digital Audio Workstation application do you use?
Steinberg Cubase Studio 4.1/SE3/SL2.2/ NB: thanks Sonalksis for FreeG M/S channel faders/extra envelope, without which the above otherwise excellent series of sequencers would be unusable to me: NO PHASE SWITCH tsk tsk Steinberg. A/Bing for vocals A MUST. Steinberg Remix to mess with loops -- old Ableton with NO audio or MIDI, I prefer it that way, not sure I want to learn C4 loop tech. Wavosaur! great Wavelab lite, Audacity 1.3, Nero6, excessively large collection VST freeware
What's your favourite digital instrument?
Zebra CM, Minimogue VA, Oatmeal, Highlife, ASynth, Triangle 2, Mr Ray, Mr Donald, Mr Tramp, CM Eve, all ERS, Fretted Synth, Sophia, Pondular -- I COULD SPEND LIFE USING ONLY THESE SOFT MACHINES -- Crystal, BB303, Limelite Solo (on Viva Ziqubu), BFD Lite, CM505, Strat-a-Various, GTG drums, reFX Claw, DigiDrum, Mini Dizi Chinese wood flute, all ephonics, DVS Sax. delaMancha Cowbell, NubiSpinnerLE, Sample Tank Free USB Plugsound Free minisampler, NI Metaphysical Function for drones. WTF edge sub-bass DSK brass, String Theory, MDA everything
Who are your musical/production influences or heroes?
Quincy Jones, Lee Perry, Bob Ludwig, Rudy van Gelder, Mikey and Geoffrey Chung, Augustus Pablo, Arif Mardin, Tony Visconti, Todd Rundgren, JP Rykiel, Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, Dr Dre, Jam and Lewis (Flyte Tyme), Nile Rodgers, Teo Macero, Marcus Miller. Musicians: Wes Montgomery, Johnny Guitar Watson, Taj Mahal, Sipho Gumede, Salif Keita, Youssou N'Dour, Abdullah Ibrahim, John Coltrane, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Pass, Sarah Vaughan, Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway, James Brown, the Soul Brothers

Greetings from Kill City: wellconal to my world

These trax are not quite like anything you have heard before, except the blues bits. Which are exactly like all the other blues bits you have ever heard in your life. Well the digital guitar tone is not bad, nothing is amped up. These trax are from the city of the living dead and some the finest booty strutting this cursed planet. So stay away from the windows, adjust yr bulletproof vest, keep the lights off and listen while you still have your ears attached to your head.

Hey Max, Hope your cool..
Was wondering if you might be able to shed some light with an issue I've got pls? Got a mate in who plays guitar and we have been messing with a few things. I've got some material on Sonar using the synths etc, and I recorded some of his (guitar) material into it as well. The problem we got is that the I can't seem to get rid of the live sound of the guitar, (want to make it more studio like) and It just sounds odd against the synths etc of the software..I've tried various effects in Sonar but having no luck, do I need a certain guitar software or can I get round this using Sonar?? If you have and ideas, would be very much appreciated. Like the new tune dude keep them coming.. Peace Crease.

Ah, I didn't notice the PC boxes! I always liked the arpeggiator possibilities in Reason, I like the sounds you have going, and its drum sampler. I got quite far with in 2006 ("disco biscuit") but Cubase is finally working well for me with its loop handling and decent drums in halion one, and I'm determined to return to recording guitars and real bass while I can still play the damn things, so that's my focus for now. The track I'm going to put up shortly is a bit ragged, very old (2005) and I can't work on the vox because preamp is not here ,and it is very retro but it 's where i am headed! later Astral
