How would you categorise your musical output?
I record and produce albums in my studio in Stockholm. Both bands and artists. I started the studio in the mid 90's at home. After a couple of years the studio grew and I got a small room. After a while that room became a bit too small and I moved to a bigger room.

Due to the slightly odd and eclectic equipment I have in the studio I often get requests to sort stuff out or "make it sound cool". I also have artists coming in to do a day or two of overdubs with "real" instruments.

For more info please visit www.roth-handle.nu

Some of the artists I am currently working with or have worked with.

The Opium Cartel (Nor) - Thieves Kitchen (U.K) - Rokit Scientik - Wendy McNeill (Can) - Martin Ekman - Nutcase music - Vijaya - Tarantula - Sophie Rockwell (fr) - Wan Light - Celestine - AK-momo - Blanc (fr) - Two times the trauma - Devi - Montage - Brighteye Brison - Molesome - Nanook of the north - Johan Moraeus - Änglagård - Deadwood Forest (U.S)- Ludvig Andersson - Pineforest Crunch - Clockwork - Kit le Fever - White Willow (nor) - Akaba - Sofia Talvik - Freddie Wadling - Geller - Daniel Lemma - Anders Nordberg - The grand opening - Grand tone music - Andreas & Jag - Jared Eggers (U.S)
What are your favourite pieces of studio hardware?
I have no software so it is more or less all hardware. My favorite instruments are my Mellotrons, The Chamberlin Rhytmmate, my optical organs such as the mattel optigan, Vako orchestron and the chilton talentmaker. I have a bunch of symths like moogs and korgs but my oddest one is without doubt Benny Anderssons Yamaha GX-1 that used to be in the famous Polar studio. 250 kg of analog polyphonic synthy goodness. When it comes to acoustic instruments my favorites are vibraphones, celestes and baritone guitars. I have recently acquiered a pipe organ that is also making it fast to the top 5 list.
Which Digital Audio Workstation application do you use?
None. I record using 2 Akai DPS-16 and one DPS-12. I like the idea of having faders and knobs on things.
What's your favourite digital instrument?
Hmm...tough one. The frostwave Sonic Alienator ?
Who are your musical/production influences or heroes?
Esquivel Les Baxter Eartha Kitt Korla Pandit Danny Elfman Raymond Scott Yma Sumac Glenn Campbell Kraftwerk Can King Crimson Brian Wilson Jon Brion Brian Eno

And so it is done.

This last Saturday I had my first 40th birthday party at the remarkable bar/restaurant that is Miss Yans and I can dare to say that it was a one of the weirdest and funniest nights so far. A great crowd, a strange setting and wonderful live music. Perfect. The line up for this first 40th birthday party was… 1. Martin Ekman 2. Harry C 3. Charlee Porter 4. Lisa o Piu 5. Zqaty We had a backline set up under the moose head including the mellotron and a handful of percussion instruments so people sa… Continue

Änglagård repressings.

Last night we had a meeting with my old band Änglagård to try to decide about how we are to proceed with re pressings of our old albums. We released two studio albums in the early 90s and then we put out a live album (of course). These albums have been out of print for a long time and now we are trying to decide in what format and in what kind of constellation the business side of things will take form… We have a couple of different alternatives up in the air but for once we actually hav… Continue

Shoe selling Optishennanigans

It has been a long time since Ive written on here but its mostly due to the fact that I have been too busy and I have also sort of shifted my focus to the wonderful and weird world of You tube. And I have been posting little recording diaries on there. I have found it hard to expl… Continue

Murfed glockenspiels and gamelan baritones.

Yesterday I worked on two different pieces. The first one was a mix for RRR, your favourite accordion, drums and vocal trio and then I did some work on a new Opium Cartel track called Picker girl. The Mix went quite well even though I think there are some small details that need to be sorted out and some level tweaking to be done. It is kind of difficult to mix accordion and drums in a way so that it sounds somewhat hefty or chunky. We’ll see…I posted a roughmix at the RRR myspace page. It shou… Continue

Playing with the garden hose

Friday – Worked with Rokit Scientik. Recording vocals for the Disappointed. Very fast and fun. Did a lot of editing on the track making it more swift. Saturday – Recorded five songs with RRR. Also very fast. With a bit of luck I will be mixing this on Tuesd… Continue

Just listens to some of the songs and I really enjoy the organic sound we have acheived without the use of software. ( maybe I should dig out the old 4-Track )
