Profile

How would you categorise your musical output?
1. The sound of silence (at the moment). I'm much too busy with bringing up my kids.
2. Sampling my wife telling my 14 year old stepson that his mobile phone was ringing and using it to make my last track.
3. Getting my music used on the O'Neill surfing promos even though I make downtempo instrumental not-really-surfer-dude music.
What are your favourite pieces of studio hardware?
My bed. The studio is in my bedroom.
Which Digital Audio Workstation application do you use?
Acid Pro 6 because I can't be bothered writing proper tunes.
What's your favourite digital instrument?
My index finger. ("digit"-al - geddit?)
Who are your musical/production influences or heroes?
My wife, who tells me to get off the computer and scratch her back.

who on earth is mistrust?

Updated: The first track on my player is by Dwoogie, a fellow MTMer. I'd like to feature other members' tunes on here, so if you're up for a bit of cross-promotion let me know.....

I'm Tim Blackburn, resident of Bolton, UK. I make all sorts of music - mainly downtempo, trip hop type stuff....My tracks have been used by O'Neill (the surfing equipment people) on their promo films, and been played by various DJs up and down the UK, including at Glitchnight and The Big Chill Bar. All of my tracks are available for licensing - let me know if you want to use them.......... If you've come across my music on the places mentioned here, or anywhere else, please let me know.

2007: my highs and lows....

2007 has been a funny old year for me. Loads happened, but not especially on the music-making front. Lots of highs and lots of lows, so here goes with a few....

Highs: The biggest one has got to be winning the Yamaha Motif in the MTM Studionet promotion, and the resulting trip to Yamaha R&D for the "official" product training. Others - joining Studionet and then being asked by Neil W to become one of the Moderators. Got signed up by a new UK music library, and was asked to submit so… Continue

And finally....

It's arrived!

And it's absolutely incredible! I'll make a fortune on Ebay! (only kidding - you really think I'll get rid of it?)

I went down to Yamaha's R&D offices in West London yesterday and got the official Yamaha training from one of their product specialists. Spent most of yesterday afternoon grinning like an idiot after hearing t… Continue

I'm a celebrity get me out of here....

Not a request from Neil and co to remove me from my position of moderator because I've become to big for my boots due to recent events.....

....More to do with the fact that I'm completely distracted at the moment by what's on tv. Followers of ITV in the UK will know it's eviction week on "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here", and those who followed the career of those Welsh wizards "Catatonia" will be equally as excited. The reason (for the uninitiated) is that their singer, Cerys Matt… Continue

Ch...ch..changes....

Typical isn't it? All these changes to the site and I'm tied up with all sorts of domestic crises.... (plural of crisis?) I wouldn't mind a good hour or so to have a look through all the categories, plus look at the new videos, listen to the new tracks. But no chance really. Paul (as in "Paul, the phone is ringing") is on an increased dose of anti-depressants for his anxiety. He's got Autism, which makes life difficult for him and us, without all the anxieties and sleepless nights. I've got a fe… Continue

More music please....an open invitation!

I guess this is an open invitation to those people who haven't uploaded any tunes yet......

I like listening to music, especially tunes I haven't heard before and styles I don't normally listen to. There's a lot of great music on here and MTM Ning gives me the chance to hear a lot of tunes. However, there are over 300 members so there should be a lot more music....Maybe a lot of people are just testing the water about the site (shall I,shan't I post some tracks?) Maybe I'm missing the "… Continue

Hello,

Many thanks for adding me. I love your work, your atmospheric sound, your beats... Actually, this kind of music is one of my favorite genres.

And as for my arrogance, it means very little. We simply do not have a high standard of English usage. The average secondary school student from Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria or even suffering Zimbabwe has considerably superior English skills ... it is a long story, and has much to do with the colonial stand-off between Boer and Brit in days gone by. The teaching of English was deliberately trashed, a legacy we have never shaken off. But all is fair in love and war, the game isn't straight, mate! And I would not have a job...

Tim, no I haven't spotted many errors, and I better get back to work soon.... I make a few myself when blogging and so on, in fact the sub-editor's reflex can be a curse when dealing with shaky net connections, not to mention my acute lack of brevity on matters musical!

Great tracks , really enjoyed reading stuff on your page while listening to your music. i think it`s great aswell that your tracks have been used by others, it kind of inspires me to keep making music and sharing it with people who are interested.
